We kicked off the summer holidays in style with our owner’s exclusive summer party. For the little ones we had some amazing entertainment, including a return visit from Mr Trix the clown and Ella from Frozen, and finished the night with dancing and music from the fabulous Treasure.

The fun didn’t stop there! We also had a disco at the beginning of August and a casino and disco towards the end of August. The casino was a great success and it looked like you all had a great time, we hope you kept your photobooth pictures courtesy of Event Lounge.

Busy Bayers Activities During the Summer Holidays

We also welcomed some new activities to our timetable, including Welsh for beginners, first aid awareness for children and cooking skills. Our ‘Meet the Bees’ sessions were such a success over the summer that we carried them on into September; if you’re quick you may still be able to attend one of our weekend sessions taking place for the rest of the month. We are thrilled to announce that Silver Bay Holiday Village are now members of the National Trust, Wildlife Trust, RSPB, Red Squirrel Trust and once again have been awarded the David Bellamy Gold Award. We are very proud of this achievement and it further strengthens our commitment to conserving the local area and wildlife. Read on to find out about each membership and what this means for Silver Bay and our owners and visitors.

As a member of the National Trust we aim to help the organisation achieve its aims of giving everyone access to Britain’s beautiful landscapes and spectacular coastlines whilst helping to take care of it. Similarly, our membership with the Wildlife Trust will help support the preservation of wildlife and wild places in the local area as well as helping our owners get closer to nature.

Silver Bay and the local area is home to a multitude of bird species, from puffins to sparrow-hawks, so it’s no surprise that we’re a member of the RSPB. With species numbers declining dramatically in recent years, we’ll be working with the RSPB to help their recovery.

Another animal that is at risk in our local area is the red squirrel. Earlier this month we had a visit from Holly, our Red Squirrel Ranger from the Red Squirrel Trust, and we are over the moon to hear that there is evidence of red squirrel activity in our woodland area. Holly will be popping back to check on the activity so we’ll make sure to keep you updated. Why not take a walk and see if you can spot one yourself?

Last but not least, we’re happy to announce that we have once again being awarded the David Bellamy Gold Award. This award recognises our commitment to protecting the local wildlife, reducing our energy use, recycling our waste, and supporting the local community.

To find out more about our beach and surrounding area, take a look at our beach page. We’ll also be keeping you updated on local wildlife and nature so make sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to be in the know. If you would like to find out more about owning a holiday lodge here at Silver Bay, you can download our online brochure or request a callback and a member of our friendly team will be in touch.

Well what a year so far for the honeybees! The winter was long and there was a cold spell towards the end; the poor bees didn’t know what to make of it – they thought it should be spring by now (just like us!). Luckily for them we weren’t greedy and hadn’t taken any honey last year; we had been building them up last summer and autumn and letting them stock themselves for the winter – and it was just as well we did for they needed last summer/autumn’s food stores to get them through that long winter!

However, since the spring came – it went with a ‘bang’ – the bees have really taken off! The Queens have been laying lots of new honeybees called ‘workers’ (especially Willow Queen, although Heather Queen is not far behind!) Unsurprisingly, workers get their name from the fact that they work their socks off! (well actually, bees don’t have socks!) Due to their hard-working nature, these workers have a very short lifespan at this time of year, about 6-7 weeks, so the Queen (who lives up to 5 years) has a busy job continuously laying new bees so that there are always plenty of workers to collect new pollen and nectar! And yes, they have been collecting lots of fresh pollen, which is high in protein, to feed the young bees and collecting nectar from flowers which is processed into honey. We have been very lucky to have harvested surplus honey this summer!

A beekeeper’s job is particularly busy in the spring and summer because they are ensuring that the colony is healthy, giving the hive fresh comb and space. It is also a very difficult balance to ensure that the colony of bees is strong and healthy but that it doesn’t swarm. Regular checks are needed to see if they are building new queen cells – in which case they want to swarm. This would mean we would lose our ‘old’ queen and a lot of the bees. We would be left with a new queen and some bees, but the colony would be significantly weaker. Beekeepers can also intervene if they are lucky enough to catch them at the right time and manipulate them to make them think they have swarmed but still keeping all the bees! Sneaky beekeepers! So far so good – we have managed to avoid swarming.

We hope those of you lucky enough to have visited the hives this summer learnt lots about our wonderful bees. The beekeeping sessions are so popular that we have organised for some more weekend visits throughout September, before we tuck them in for the winter.

To book onto a session please visit www.bookwhen.com/activities

Silver Bay Honey can be purchased from Reception and the Spa & Leisure Complex.

On Sunday 5th August we’re thrilled to open our gates for the grand opening of our new development, Bay View. We’ll be welcoming one and all to join us for some fizz and nibbles and inviting you to take a tour of the stunning range of holiday lodges available on Bay View, as well as the amazing facilities that we have on site.

Bay View plan

The name ‘Bay View’ derives from the southerly facing plots on the development which benefit from breathtaking views of the Llyn Peninsula and Snowdonia. The development is just a short walk away from Silver Bay Beach and will be fully landscaped with a hard standing parking area for each holiday lodge. We currently have 17 holiday lodges available on Bay View with just five now available on the front row so this open day is not one to be missed.

One of the lodges available to view will be the Bella Vista, a contemporary and spacious holiday lodge with a refreshing white gloss kitchen and neutral grey tones and hints of blush pink throughout. The lodge also features a fully glazed front elevation with french doors and high level windows as well as a vaulted ceiling to the lounge, kitchen and diner. You can take a look at the other lodges available on our luxury lodges page but we agree that it’s definitely worth viewing the lodges in person to truly appreciate their beauty and quality.

There’s no need to book to attend our open day, just turn up on the day. If you require any further information please feel free to get in touch or, alternatively, you can request a callback and a member of our friendly team will be in touch. You can also download our free brochure to get a feel for Silver Bay before you visit. We hope to see you there!

Celebrate the start of the summer holidays with our owner’s exclusive summer party. We’ll be kicking off the celebrations at 4:30pm with the children’s buffet and entertainment followed by food, live music and dancing for the adults until 1am. Tickets for this year’s party will be available through our online booking system only, making it more convenient to book and avoid queues over the phone. Tickets are limited to eight tickets per holiday lodge, plus there will be a notes section for any special requests. You can access the online booking system here and tickets will be available until 10am on Thursday 19th July. If you have any difficulty using the system please call the Owner Services Team on 01407 860860 and we’ll be more than happy to guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

We’ll also be hosting a disco on Saturday 4th August, casino and disco on Sunday 26th August and we will be serving a roast dinner every Sunday throughout the summer holidays.
